Privacy Policy

The GUS Band strongly believes in the importance of keeping members' personal information personal. Great care and attention has gone into creating a fair, balanced and simple privacy policy. This page is intended to present that policy.

Personal information

The GUS Band will never use your personal information for any use beyond that stated or the permissions you give us. Registration with the GUS Band website requires the submission of your email address and a secret password. These will be stored on our server, along with any other personal information you supply. Your name may be displayed to other registered members within members-only areas of the website, for example to identify you when contributing to a discussion thread (anonymous comments are forbidden). The position of current players and committee members will be listed on the public website. No other personal information will be shared with any third parties.

This unique address will be used to identify you at login-time, and to present information appropriate to your level of membership. This process helps us to verify that you are a 'real person', and not an automated robot attacking on the website. This email address will also be used to send occasional emails containing news and event information. The intention of the GUS Band is to send no more than one email per calendar month. By accepting this policy, you agree to receive such emails.

The GUS Band is proud to have children as both playing and non-playing members and is committed to their welfare and safety. Indeed, the band operates under the Code of Conduct as outlined by the British Federation of Brass Bands. There are no age-restricted areas on this website and the intention is that all content is suitable for children. In areas of the website where members may upload content (e.g. discussion forums), no inappropriate content will be tolerated, and will result in login access being removed. Parents are encouraged to monitor their children's online activity, and educate them to ask your permission before providing any personal information.

Server logs

The GUS Band website records IP addresses and produces server logs (as most web servers do). An IP address is a unique number assigned to your computer while you are accessing on the internet. By tracking the IP addresses of visitors to the GUS Band website, the volume of traffic to specific areas of the website can be monitored. This information will not be used to track activities of specific users, unless the GUS Band has cause to believe there are safety or security issues, or to comply with legal requirements.

Data protection

All members have certain rights under the UK Data Protection Acts. One such right is to see all information held about you by the GUS Band. You may access most of this data free of charge, using the "User info" page. The GUS Band will provide you with all data that we hold about you upon request, but reserves the right to charge a £10 administration fee for this process. If you would like to request this information, please use the contact details below.

Intellectual property and confidentiality

Everything you see or read on this website is copyrighted unless otherwise stated and may not be used except with prior written consent from the GUS Band. Any communication or material you transmit to this website, including data, questions, comments and suggestions, will be treated as non-confidential and non-proprietary.

While GUS Band uses reasonable efforts to include accurate and up-to-date information on this website, it can not guarantee its accuracy. Nor does the GUS Band assume any liability or responsibility for any errors.

The presence of hylerlinks on this website does not constitute endorsement by the GUS Band of the destination website, its content or sponsors. External links are provided for your convenience and you follow them at your own risk.

Changes to this policy

As statutory requirements change, this policy may also have to change. Any changes will be highlighted across the website to ensure that all members have the opportunity to respond to these changes.
